Privacy policy

Effective 5 October 2026. This policy covers the Condemn the Heretic app and the website at play.complinegames.com (also condemn-the-heretic.fly.dev). The game is made by Compline Games LLC, which is responsible for the information described here.

The short version

There are no accounts, ads or tracking, and we never sell your information. The game asks only for a nickname. Playing online shares your nickname, moves and chat with the players in your room, and the company that hosts the game processes information to run it, as described below. Online rooms are kept for a short time and then deleted. The server keeps a few daily counts of online nights that say nothing about who played.

On your device

The game saves on your device your nickname, your sound, music and other settings, the players you muted, what your brother wears, the code that lets you rejoin a room, and your progress in practice, the casebook, Tonight's vigil and the novice's story. Practice, the casebook, Tonight's vigil and the story run entirely on your device. Clearing the website's data removes all of this, and so does deleting the iPhone app. The Android app keeps it in your browser's storage, so after uninstalling that app, clear the site's data in the browser too.

Playing online

When you create or join a room, the game's server receives your nickname and gives you a random session code so you can reconnect. To run the game it handles your moves, duties, votes and council chat, and shares with the other players in your room only what the rules allow them to see. Chat goes only to the players in your room. Offensive words are masked before anyone sees them.

A room, including its chat, is deleted two hours after its last activity, or ten minutes after it was made if nobody opened it. Chat is also cleared at the start of every council and every new game. If the server cannot restore a room after a restart, a copy is kept for up to seven days so the fault can be fixed, then deleted.

Like any website, the server receives your IP address to send you the game. It does not store it with your room or on disk. To stop abuse it keeps in memory how many rooms, room codes and connections each address has used recently, and forgets an address when those are gone.

To find connection faults, the server may write a line to its hosting provider's logs when a player arrives to find his brother already fallen. The line holds the room code, a seat number, part of that night's identifier and what happened to that seat during the night. It holds no nickname, message or IP address, and stays in those logs only briefly.

Daily counts

To learn whether groups enjoy the game, the server adds to a few counts each day: how many online nights began in each mode and with how many players, how many rooms played another night, how nights ended, and the answers to "How was tonight?" at the end of an online night. They also include how long duties take to finish and how soon a night's duties are all done, with no names or accounts. The counts hold no nicknames, room codes, session codes or IP addresses, so they cannot be linked to you. They are kept for about 13 months. Practice, the casebook and Tonight's vigil are never counted.

Reports

If you report a message, the server records the message, the room code, both players' nicknames and the time, so we can review it. These records are kept on the game server for 90 days, and briefly in the hosting provider's server logs. They are not used for anything else.

Who hosts the game

The server runs on Fly.io in the United States. Fly.io processes connection and log data on our behalf.

Children

The game is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information.
